Gal 6:13

For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.

When the world tries to persuade you into doing what they do, they are not doing it because they care about you. They make you their friend, and make you scared to stand up for God for fear of losing the friendship. Their desire is to have people like you and me, following them so that they can say look at all the followers i have. They're not doing it because the truly care about you, or to have a relationship that is used to encourage one another. Their reasons are selfish!

James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Interesting that you would say that. There was a girl at camp this summer, very popular, who said almost the exact same thing in a testimony at the end of the week. She admitted that she's been there, that at her school she's been in the "in" crowd, but what was really interesting was that she admitted that they really aren't any happier than anyone else. In many ways she said that they are much more miserable. That is why they always have to have a crowd of followers around them and they really don't have any respect for anyone who falls for their trick. Fitting in isn't all its cracked up to be. It was one of the most influential testimonies of the summer and she ended it in tears saying she would give anything to be able to trade those years for a more worthwhile life and a chance to have a positive impact.

Those verses are very true, and anyone who's been on the other side, if they were honest, would tell you the same thing. There really isn't any reward for those who care more what other people think than what God thinks.
